March 13 - This Wednesday we spoke to Julie Heiss of the Madd Potter in Oyster Bay.  The new paint your own pottery and craft studio opened up on March 2nd of this year on the south side of Audrey Avenue next to the Mill Pond Consignment shop.  They offer the supplies and expertise to help you complete four crafts: pottery painting, glass fusion, mosaics, and clay creations.  In order to partake in the fun you only need to pay a studio fee of $8 - which includes 3 hours of studio time, paint, glaze, glue, grout and kiln time - and the price of your craft.  Anybody can get into the creative spirit!

The Madd Potter also offers kid and adult parties!  All parties include:

  • 1.5 hours of studio time
  • 1 piece of pottery per guest plus use of art supplies
  • Personalized ceramic paint palette and embroidered art apron for the guest of honor
  • Invitations with envelopes
  • Decorations
  • 1 slice of pizza per guest
  • Choice of juice, spring water or iced tea
  • Plates, napkins, utensils and candles
  • $2 in Madd Bucks for each guest
  • Staff member to assist in the party
  • Staff will glaze, fire and individually wrap and label all party pieces to be ready for pick up in 2 weeks

March 6 - This Wednesday we visited Chrison & Bellina a boutique nestled in next to Tabby's Burgers on Audrey Avenue.  The building is right next to a walkway connecting Audrey Avenue to the Town parking lot to the north - providing patrons with convenient access to parking.  The deceptively small exterior gives a quaint look to this boutique that is bursting with unique gifts for you or a friend!  The front room is filled with a wide array of jewelry and accessories ranging from scarves to hats to shoes and more.  Every wall and surface is covered with unique pieces and it is best to take several minutes just to take it all in!

As you move further into the store the next room is bright, crisp and airy with many home furnishings on display.  In the center of the room is a table set with several table settings which are all for sale.  The walls are covered in shelving displaying kitchen utensils, cheese platters, various types of cookbooks, glassware and tea cups among others.

Final Room

The final room has a wide array of clothes, bath essentials and various knick knacks lining the walls and covering every available surface.  Their stock is also continuously being updated, so if you have had the opportunity to browse through their selection it might be time to take a second look!

February 20 - This wednesday we spoke to Jaqueline Einhorn of the Coin Galleries of Oyster Bay.  The Coin Galleries opened up in 1999 in the former North Shore Bank Building located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Audrey Avenue and South Street.  Since then the Coin Galleries have expanded with seven different locations throughout Long Island.  Despite their specific name the Coin Galleries buys and sells more than just coins; they offer a wide range of items from jewelry to entertainment memorabilia.  They also have an experienced staff available on hand to buy, sell or even just give a free appraisal of your coins, stamps, jewelry, gold, silver or other collectibles.

February 13 - Today we spoke with Karen Bunone of Long Island Picture Frame & Art Gallery. LIPF was opened under the direction of owner Jim Perna in December of this past year.  This is the second location for LIPF, which still has a venue on the south shore in Massapequa. The new large L-shaped gallery space is located on the northwest corner of the Audrey Avenue and South Street intersection, with two storefronts on either side of Carvel. 

LIPF provides a wide range of goods and services for those who would like to frame and restore their own pieces and those that would like to acquire new.  Among the services they provide are:

Sports Cards
February 6 - This Wednesday we spoke to Ernie Muller of EM 3&4 Sports Cards and Collectibles.  This small retail space is located on South Street, north of Audrey Avenue next to the entrance to a municipal parking lot.  The space is filled with a range of sports cards for baseball, hockey, football and basketball in the top brands like Topps and Panini.  Ernie sells new sports cards in packs and boxes as well as individual autographed cards displayed in glass cases.  There are also collectible action figures available including the greats from baseball, football, basketball, hockey and the WWE by McFarlane.  There are plaques and autographed framed photographs for sale.

Not a sports fan?  There are also Boyd Collectible Bears for sale as well as cards highlighting well known bands such as One Direction.

January 30 - This Wednesday we spoke to Tracy Matthews of Mill Pond Consignment.  Mill Pond is located in an historic building on the south side of Audrey Avenue just off the intersection of Audrey and South Street.  On sunny days, the sidewalk in front of the shop becomes an extension of the showroom floor, displaying chairs, benches and other wares of note to those passing along the street.  When walking into the store one is simply overwhelmed with all the shop has to offer.  Everything, from the glasses and plates to the tables, armoires and chairs that they are displayed on are for sale.  Mill Pond offers a wide range of wares from individual tea cups to elaborate dinner china.  They offer a range of home decor including framed oil paintings, framed antique prints as well as prints from local artist Anita Lamb.

The staff is friendly and knowledgable about their ever-evolving inventory.  The showroom is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
